Discuss lesson plans and how to incorporate technology into them to make them meaningful using McREL's taxonomy

Promoting and utilizing Digital Tools. To what ends?
McREL's knowledge taxonomy and not only knowing what to do, but why, how and when.

Ongoing Development of the "Balanced Leadership" Framework:

McREL's work on this framework continues through the development of a "knowledge taxonomy" to organize the theoretical research mentioned earlier. The taxonomy organizes this literature into the following four types of knowledge, which can be applied to the 21 leadership responsibilities and associated practices:
  • Experiential knowledge—knowing why this is important;
  • Declarative knowledge—knowing what to do;
  • Procedural knowledge—knowing how to do it; and
  • Contextual knowledge—knowing when to do it.
The value of the taxonomy is in organizing the knowledge in the theoretical research on leadership, change, systems, organizational learning, diffusion, supervision, and institutions so ti can be applied to the 21 leadership responsibilities.

Finally - Exploration of digital tools - Present like Free Technology for Teachers

Digital Tools Exercises:

Each week you will choose from the bag a digital tool to work on for 45 minutes.
Create a short test example to use in your presentation.
You will post your weekly digital tool to the wiki along with resources and review.

You will then present your tool to the class using the following guidelines:

  • Does it need an email account to log in
  • Ease of use
  • How would you use it in the classroom
  • Are there any resources you could find to help support the tool
  • Could this tool be used as a global collaborative tool
  • What else??
